Responsibilities
- Lead backend development and maintain server-side logic for Mozilla Ecosystem Services.
- Own services end to end, including deployment, operation, production monitoring, and reliability improvements.
- Maintain and improve cloud production environments with CloudEng, including monitoring and alerting using OpenTelemetry, Sentry, Prometheus, and Grafana.
- Participate in on-call and off-hours support rotations, triage production issues, investigate incidents, and resolve bugs.
- Handle releases, dependency updates, and incoming work requests during periodic support rotations.
- Partner with frontend, platform, product, UX, design, CloudEng, and support teams on APIs, data contracts, and project goals.
- Participate in code reviews, security and privacy reviews, and compliance-related data protection work.
- Mentor junior engineers and drive improvements in code quality, testing, and engineering processes.
- Apply AI-assisted development tools thoughtfully to improve development speed and quality.
Requirements
- At least 4 years of software development experience focused on backend technologies.
- Strong professional experience building backend services with Python, TypeScript/Node.js, or Rust.
- Proficiency with PostgreSQL, SQL query optimization, relational schema design, migrations, and a query builder such as Knex.
- Hands-on DevOps experience with Google Cloud Platform and Docker-based build and deployment pipelines.
- Experience deploying, operating, troubleshooting, and supporting services in the cloud, including on-call or off-hours production support.
- Hands-on experience with observability and monitoring tools such as Sentry and Grafana.
- Strong engineering judgment, ownership, collaboration, and ability to make practical technical trade-offs.
- Experience mentoring junior engineers and improving code quality, testing, and engineering processes.
- Preferred experience with performance or load testing, Terraform, Kubernetes, open-source contributions or personal engineering projects, and Django.
