Responsibilities
- Own the Cabin UX application end to end, including server-rendered HTMX UI, NestJS services, and supporting cloud APIs.
- Build accessible rider-facing interfaces for embedded and tablet displays that remain reliable under varying light, motion, and connectivity conditions.
- Integrate WebRTC audio and video communication between cabins and operators, including signaling and graceful degradation.
- Integrate audio, announcements, sound design, and multi-channel playback systems.
- Consume vehicle telemetry and fleet state over WebSockets, SSE, or message buses and render it in real time while handling stale, missing, and out-of-order data.
- Implement offline-first behavior with local state, queued actions, and safe defaults during uplink loss.
- Deploy and update software on on-vehicle edge compute and partner on packaging, provisioning, and fleet rollout.
- Test on real hardware and in hardware-in-the-loop and simulation environments, including building tools for vehicle-free testing.
- Design and optimize relational and NoSQL schemas supporting cabin and operator workflows.
- Collaborate with Design to turn rider-experience concepts into measurable shipped products and incorporate field learnings.
- Support localization and accessibility across cabin and adjacent rider-facing applications.
- Document practices, establish sensible default stacks, and mentor engineers on rider-facing and on-vehicle development.
Requirements
- Expert-level TypeScript across frontend and backend, plus expert-level HTML5 and CSS.
- Production Node.js backend experience, ideally with NestJS on Fastify, including modules, dependency injection, guards, interceptors, and server-side templating.
- Experience with HTMX, hypermedia-driven architectures, server-rendered interfaces, and deciding when to use richer clients such as React, Vue, or Svelte.
- Experience streaming server state through HTMX SSE or WebSocket extensions and server-push infrastructure.
- Hands-on WebRTC experience covering media capture, signaling, TURN/STUN, and diagnosing quality issues on unreliable networks.
- Experience with WebWorkers and event-driven or message-bus architectures such as MQTT or gRPC streams.
- Experience shipping web-native or embedded UI on Linux-based or tablet hardware, including display, input, and power constraints.
- Experience with Web Audio or native audio pipelines, or the ability to learn these systems quickly.
- Experience defining schemas and working with databases such as Postgres or Redis.
- Comfort with Linux, containers, and edge or on-vehicle deployment; Kubernetes and fleet rollout familiarity is preferred.
- Familiarity with AWS services such as EC2, S3, and DynamoDB.
- Strong accessibility, internationalization, and public-facing unattended-use design instincts.
- Ability to work across hardware, network, and design teams and debug cross-functional problems.
- Preferred experience includes automotive, transit, kiosk, or public-facing embedded interfaces; NVIDIA Jetson hardware; Three.js, WebGL, or shaders; and hardware-in-the-loop testing or simulation.
