Responsibilities

  • Architect, implement, and refine high-performance gameplay systems for player controls, combat logic, animation state machines, physics interactions, and spatial AI.
  • Collaborate with designers, animators, audio engineers, producers, and technical leaders to translate creative concepts into responsive gameplay mechanics.
  • Contribute to engine capabilities, multithreaded architecture, memory management, network synchronization, debugging, and performance optimization.
  • Integrate emerging AI techniques and automated workflows into development pipelines.
  • Build and maintain developer-facing tools, editors, and performance profiling utilities.
  • Tune and polish gameplay for responsiveness, impact clarity, frame accuracy, and player satisfaction.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and promote software engineering best practices and technical excellence.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience in video game development, with shipped titles or core gameplay systems work.
  • Advanced proficiency in C++ and object-oriented software design.
  • Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, 3D mathematics, physics, linear algebra, vector math, and quaternions.
  • Deep experience with debugging, memory optimization, multithreading, and performance profiling.
  • Hands-on experience developing gameplay systems such as combat mechanics, player controllers, animation trees or IK, physics, or game AI.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical ideas clearly to technical and non-technical collaborators.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or computer engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience with PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S, dynamic animation, procedural movement, physics-driven hit reactions, Perforce, or Git is preferred.

  • British Columbia compensation range is CAD 141,400–204,400 per year, depending on location.
