Responsibilities
- Design, build, maintain, and deploy advanced native Android applications using Kotlin and modern Android frameworks.
- Lead Android technical architecture decisions and establish development best practices.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, backend engineers, and City stakeholders to define requirements and deliver mobile features.
- Translate user needs and business goals into scalable, maintainable mobile solutions.
- Implement accessible, secure, performant, and pixel-perfect Android user experiences.
- Integrate Android applications with RESTful APIs, backend services, and City data systems.
- Write maintainable code, conduct code reviews, mentor junior developers, and contribute to engineering excellence.
- Implement automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, troubleshooting, and reliable deployment practices.
- Ensure applications comply with Google Play Store guidelines and submission requirements.
- Communicate technical decisions, progress, and risks to technical and non-technical audiences and support agile delivery practices.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of professional Android development experience.
- Strong proficiency in Kotlin, Android Studio, and modern Android frameworks including Jetpack, Jetpack Compose, and Coroutines.
- Deep understanding of Android fundamentals including Activities, Fragments, Services, Content Providers, app lifecycle, memory management, and performance optimization.
- Experience building and deploying at least one Android application to the Google Play Store or through enterprise distribution.
- Experience integrating RESTful APIs and working with backend services.
- Knowledge of Material Design, Android UI/UX, mobile architecture, design patterns, accessibility, security, and performance optimization.
- Familiarity with Google Play Console, app store submission, automated mobile testing frameworks, Git, and agile or iterative development.
- Understanding of server-side programming with Node.js and TypeScript, command-line and shell scripts, SQL, relational databases, AWS, containerization, API design, and automated test/deployment pipelines.
- Demonstrated proficiency in React Native through a portfolio or work samples.
- Ability to mentor engineers, troubleshoot complex mobile applications, manage priorities, and collaborate effectively across teams.
- A bachelor’s degree is a preferred foundation; job-related experience around the listed competencies is acceptable as an alternative.
