Responsibilities
- Build backend systems for product growth, including multi-tenant foundations, permissions, and internal or administrative tooling
- Design and operate asynchronous processing systems for background workloads and workflow orchestration
- Improve system performance and cost through caching, batching, rollups, and efficient data access patterns
- Build secure, extensible integration infrastructure including authentication, APIs, and third-party connectors
- Improve backend engineering quality through observability, testing, incident readiness, and operational practices
- Collaborate cross-functionally to ship durable, extensible features end-to-end
- Partner with product and ML teams to maintain reliability and performance as usage scales
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience at a fast-moving startup shipping production backend systems
- Experience owning systems end-to-end from architecture and implementation through deployment, monitoring, and debugging
- Experience building reliable distributed systems involving APIs, databases, asynchronous jobs, queues, and pipelines
- Experience building real-time systems using WebSockets, pub/sub, or event fanout at low latency and scale
- Experience building enterprise-ready multi-tenant systems with team management, roles, permissions, and administrative tooling
- Familiarity with LLM product infrastructure patterns such as caching, batching, evaluations, and integrations is a plus
- Must be based in or willing to relocate to San Francisco
- Strong communication, collaboration, ownership, and self-direction
