Responsibilities
- Own the technical direction and architecture of the agentic AI research system, designing for scale, reliability, and performance.
- Lead development of automation systems by defining technical scope, reviewing code and designs, mentoring engineers, and removing blockers.
- Partner with internal researchers, experimentalists, and engineers to translate research needs into well-scoped products and validate adoption.
- Build automated pipelines for structuring unstructured documents and executing complex research tasks at scale.
- Develop SDKs, APIs, and data visualizations for internal technical users.
- Establish and enforce engineering standards covering automated tests, CI/CD pipelines, code review, logging, and monitoring.
Requirements
- BSc in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Math, or a related field.
- At least 7 years of software engineering experience building and operating production systems.
- Demonstrated technical leadership through architecture ownership, design and delivery of complex systems, code review, and mentorship.
- Experience designing and operating high-throughput, distributed, or large-scale production services and diagnosing performance, reliability, and cost issues.
- Product experience building software for real users and iterating based on their needs and feedback.
- Experience building and deploying production systems on AWS.
- Strong knowledge of asynchronous, concurrent, and/or queueing system design.
- Command of the full software development lifecycle, including version control, testing, CI/CD, logging, and monitoring.
- Proficiency with GitHub, Python, Rust, Postgres, Docker, Terraform, and AWS.
- Preferred: MSc in a relevant field; experience with Claude, Claude Code, Codex, or Gemini CLI; internal developer tools, SDKs, or platforms; ML/AI fundamentals; LLM or agentic workflow benchmarking; ML-assisted data processing, labeling, or distillation; physics and linear algebra; or distributed and quantum computing experience.
Benefits
- Base salary range of 150,000–200,000 CAD, with equity and benefits.
- Existing full-time position; salary is determined by location, experience, and internal benchmarks.
