Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, implementation, enhancement, and maintenance of mainframe applications supporting enterprise banking systems.
- Provide technical direction, subject matter expertise, architecture guidance, and technical leadership across project teams.
- Develop and support COBOL applications using CICS, JCL, and CA7 or Control-M scheduling tools.
- Design and optimize high-throughput batch and online transaction processing systems.
- Translate complex business requirements into robust technical solutions and drive mainframe modernization and distributed-system integration.
- Lead troubleshooting, root cause analysis, debugging, and performance tuning across mainframe environments.
- Collaborate with architects, product owners, and infrastructure teams while adhering to engineering, governance, and process standards.
- Mentor junior engineers and support application modernization initiatives.
Requirements
- Strong experience in mainframe development and advanced proficiency with COBOL, CICS, JCL, and CA7 or Control-M.
- Proven ability to design and support mission-critical, large-scale systems and batch and real-time processing frameworks.
- Experience working in regulated, high-availability environments such as banking or financial services.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, troubleshooting, debugging, and communication skills.
- Prior technical leadership or lead engineering experience and the ability to work independently are preferred.
- Experience supporting application modernization initiatives and influencing stakeholders is preferred.
- A bachelor’s degree is expected; a comparable combination of education, job-specific certifications, and experience, including military service, may be considered.
- The role typically requires 5+ years of industry-relevant experience.
