Responsibilities
- Design, build, and evolve scalable cloud foundation services used across multiple Esko products.
- Own detailed technical design and implementation of complex capabilities from requirements through production.
- Write high-quality backend code and solve complex distributed-systems and engineering problems.
- Partner with Architects to translate architectural direction into production software and provide implementation feedback.
- Improve platform-service reliability, performance, observability, testability, and maintainability.
- Lead code reviews, technical problem-solving, root-cause analysis, and resolution of complex production issues.
- Drive engineering excellence through automated testing, code quality, design practices, and operational readiness.
- Mentor engineers through hands-on collaboration, reviews, and technical guidance.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience building backend, cloud-native, or large-scale SaaS applications.
- Strong hands-on experience with Java/JVM technologies and modern backend frameworks.
- Strong experience designing and building REST APIs, microservices, and distributed systems.
- Experience translating architecture and high-level designs into detailed technical designs and production-quality implementations.
- Ability to identify implementation trade-offs, challenge assumptions, and provide constructive technical feedback.
- Strong understanding of scalability, concurrency, consistency, availability, resiliency, and fault tolerance.
- Experience developing and operating scalable applications on AWS or another major cloud platform.
- Experience with relational and NoSQL databases, including PostgreSQL and Amazon DynamoDB, covering data modeling, access patterns, transactions, indexing, and performance optimization.
- Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, Git, and modern software delivery practices.
- Experience diagnosing production problems using logs, metrics, distributed tracing, profiling, and performance analysis.
- Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical decisions through design reviews, code reviews, and engineering judgment.
- Preferred: experience with Scala or other functional programming languages and functional programming concepts.
- Preferred: experience with Kafka, Redis, Akka, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, or similar distributed technologies.
- Preferred: experience building shared cloud platforms, modernizing legacy or large-scale distributed systems, or improving engineering practices.
