Lead Software Engineer
Capital OneResponsibilities
- Lead a portfolio of technology projects involving distributed systems, microservices, platform engineering, and AI/ML applications.
- Partner with product, design, data science, and engineering teams to deliver scalable AI/ML platform capabilities and developer experiences.
- Design and develop production-grade APIs, SDKs, libraries, microservices, and developer tools for building, integrating, evaluating, and operating AI/ML applications.
- Build and integrate GenAI capabilities including LLMs, RAG, agents, tool use, orchestration, inference, and AI evaluation.
- Develop AI/ML observability, evaluation, monitoring, and responsible-AI capabilities focused on quality, reliability, safety, and performance.
- Use programming languages, open-source technologies, relational and NoSQL databases, containers, Kubernetes, and AWS services to build scalable and serverless solutions.
- Support existing users of owned platforms and products and mentor other engineering community members.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- At least 10 years of software engineering experience required.
- At least 8 years of experience building backend services using technologies such as Java, JavaScript, Python, Go, Node, Scala, or TypeScript.
- At least 6 years of experience with database technologies such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, Cassandra, or DynamoDB.
- At least 4 years of experience designing data-intensive distributed-computing solutions and event-driven systems.
- At least 4 years of experience building SDKs, APIs, packages, or libraries for downstream consumption, with object-oriented programming knowledge.
- At least 3 years of experience building or integrating AI/ML solutions, including GenAI, LLMs, RAG, ML platforms, or AI-enabled applications.
- At least 4 years of experience designing and building cloud-based platforms or distributed systems using AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Preferred qualifications include 8+ years with a cloud computing provider, 3+ years of MLOps experience, and 2+ years building production-ready AI/ML capabilities for large-scale platforms.
- Preferred experience includes LLM observability, evaluation, experimentation, inference optimization, model monitoring, agentic workflows, AI orchestration, RAG systems, tool-using AI applications, responsible AI, OpenTelemetry, LangChain, Haystack, vector databases, or similar technologies.
- Preferred experience includes at least 4 years in a technical leadership role overseeing strategic projects.
