Responsibilities
- Provide architectural guidance and technical direction for a core Ruby on Rails application.
- Establish engineering best practices, code standards, and quality benchmarks.
- Write, review, test, and deploy frontend and backend code for complete product features.
- Break down complex requirements into deliverable technical solutions and ship features in short development cycles.
- Partner with product managers, designers, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions.
- Instrument features with metrics to support data-driven business decisions.
- Use AI coding tools to improve development velocity and team productivity.
- Conduct code reviews, support quality releases, monitor application performance, and address scalability concerns.
- Contribute to incident response and system reliability efforts.
Requirements
- 7+ years of professional software development experience, including significant web application development.
- 3+ years of hands-on Ruby on Rails experience in production environments.
- Strong understanding of relational databases, including query optimization, indexing, and schema design.
- Working knowledge of Sidekiq or another background job processing framework.
- Solid understanding of testing methodologies and frameworks.
- Working knowledge of AI coding tools such as GitHub Copilot or Cursor and their integration into development workflows.
- Familiarity with Model Context Protocol or similar AI integration patterns.
- Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and automated deployment processes.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical teams.
- Experience with active-admin, Hotwire, or Stimulus is beneficial.
- A bachelor's degree in Computer Science and experience in high-performing, agile environments with rapid iteration cycles can strengthen an application.
