Responsibilities

  • Evaluate SaaS vendors, architectures, security postures, APIs, scalability, lock-in risks, and total cost of ownership.
  • Conduct proof-of-concept implementations and make build-versus-buy recommendations to engineering and business leadership.
  • Design and implement SaaS features, third-party integrations, middleware, abstractions, authentication, authorization, and data synchronization layers.
  • Create internal SaaS management tools and automation while writing production-quality full-stack code.
  • Lead architecture reviews, design discussions, coding standards, code reviews, pairing, and engineering mentorship.
  • Serve as the primary technical contact for vendors, negotiate technical requirements and SLAs, and lead technical escalations and incident response.
  • Review vendor security and compliance documentation and optimize the SaaS portfolio through quarterly reviews.
  • Build relationships with vendor engineering teams and identify partnership and optimization opportunities.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of hands-on software engineering experience.
  • Expert-level proficiency in at least one of Python, Go, Java, or Node.js.
  • Strong full-stack capabilities across backend and frontend development.
  • Production experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure and with Docker, Kubernetes, and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or Pulumi.
  • Strong API design experience with REST, GraphQL, and webhooks, plus enterprise SaaS integration experience with platforms such as Salesforce, Workday, and ServiceNow.
  • Hands-on experience with OAuth 2.0, SAML, OIDC, iPaaS platforms, API gateways, rate limiting, multi-tenancy, data isolation, and SaaS architecture patterns.
  • Experience with databases, data modeling, ETL/ELT, observability tools, automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Knowledge of encryption, key management, secrets handling, SOC 2, GDPR, HIPAA, and OWASP API Security.
  • Proven build-versus-buy decision-making, vendor evaluation, technical due diligence, TCO and ROI modeling, contract negotiation, procurement, FinOps, and cloud cost optimization experience.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions, communicate with executive and C-level audiences, influence across teams, mentor engineers, and drive consensus in ambiguous situations.
  • Experience in a hypergrowth or scaling environment, having built or contributed to a SaaS product as an early engineer, and prior experience as a technical founder or architect.
  • Open source contributions or technical blogging/speaking experience is preferred.
