Responsibilities
- Lead the technical direction and execution of Android experiences supporting retailers and shoppers across order picking.
- Design, build, test, and maintain Android applications using Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Coroutines, and RxJava.
- Partner with Product, Design, Backend Engineering, iOS Engineering, retailers, and external vendors to define solutions.
- Own projects from technical discovery through delivery while balancing immediate priorities with long-term platform health and scalability.
- Improve application performance, reliability, observability, and developer experience through profiling, instrumentation, architecture improvements, and technical debt reduction.
- Facilitate design discussions, mentor engineers, establish engineering practices, and guide technical decisions across the organization.
- Contribute to roadmaps covering new picking models, retailer and market expansion, and Android platform investments.
Requirements
- At least 7 years of professional software engineering experience, including substantial experience developing and shipping Android applications.
- Strong proficiency in Kotlin and modern Android development practices, including Jetpack Compose, Coroutines, and reactive programming with RxJava or an equivalent framework.
- Experience leading complex, cross-functional software projects from design through production launch.
- Experience designing maintainable Android architectures and improving performance, reliability, testing, monitoring, or observability.
- Ability to collaborate with Product, Design, Backend Engineering, iOS Engineering, external stakeholders, vendors, or enterprise customers.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical decisions and communicate risks and tradeoffs.
- Preferred experience includes mobile products for retail, logistics, fulfillment, delivery, workforce, or other operational environments; Android performance profiling; platform strategy; shared components; developer tooling; mentoring; and multi-team or multi-market initiatives.
