Base Salary
$149k - $187k/yr
Responsibilities
- Set technical direction and provide hands-on technical leadership for the Android platform.
- Architect and build platform capabilities for peer-to-peer replication, real-time syncing, distributed transactions, and offline resilience.
- Implement consumer-facing and enterprise operational applications for restaurant environments.
- Integrate printers, payment terminals, scanners, and other hardware peripherals through clean abstractions.
- Own application performance and reliability across tens of thousands of globally deployed restaurants.
- Apply MVVM architecture patterns and comprehensive testing strategies.
- Establish patterns and guardrails for AI tool usage in development, testing, documentation, and support.
- Review designs and code, mentor engineers, and raise engineering quality standards.
- Collaborate with engineering leadership, product management, brand teams, quality assurance, operations, and other engineering groups.
- Own or manage aspects of implementation, testing, and deployment processes.
Requirements
- BA/BS or higher in Computer Science or a related STEM field.
- 8+ years of hands-on experience building robust mobile software, including deep production Android experience.
- Expert knowledge of the Android SDK and strong working knowledge of Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.
- Published native Android applications in a portfolio.
- Proven ability to write robust software using sound architecture and testing practices.
- Experience architecting and building libraries, SDKs, and tools for internal and external users.
- Practical experience using AI development tooling and the judgment to establish safe, effective usage patterns.
- Ability to self-direct, prioritize work for other developers, and lead and mentor engineers.
- Preferred exposure to distributed systems, peer-to-peer architecture, restaurant technology, retail POS, or in-store operational systems.
- Preferred experience with Kotlin Flow, Coroutines, Jetpack Compose, or RxJava.
- Preferred experience building payment systems and integrating printers and payment terminals.
- Preferred experience with SQL and NoSQL databases and their tradeoffs.
- Preferred experience customizing the Android OS and deploying it on x86 hardware.
- Startup experience and demonstrated passion for software development through blogs, personal applications or websites, presentations, or community involvement are preferred.
