Base Salary
$150k - $190k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own technical direction for cross-cutting initiatives across device APIs, event pipelines, device lifecycle management, transport infrastructure, and partner-facing platform capabilities.
- Lead architectural design and end-to-end delivery of large, multi-engineer initiatives from design through implementation, validation, and production readiness.
- Define shared platform patterns, API contracts, event schemas, reusable libraries, frameworks, and integration components used by multiple teams.
- Provide technical mentorship through design reviews, code reviews, pairing, coaching, and guidance on architectural judgment.
- Drive cross-team technical alignment, participate in technology councils and design forums, and partner with architects and engineering managers.
- Establish production readiness, observability, reliability, SLAs, monitoring frameworks, and support models, and contribute to incident response and postmortems.
- Use and help teammates adopt AI-assisted development tools while validating generated code for correctness, security, edge cases, and maintainability.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- 10+ years of backend software engineering experience with demonstrated Staff-level scope and impact.
- Experience leading large, multi-engineer technical initiatives from architecture through delivery with autonomy and accountability.
- Experience defining reusable platform patterns, shared libraries, or integration frameworks that are adopted by other engineers.
- Strong architectural judgment regarding service boundaries, domain ownership, failure modes, versioning, and maintainability.
- Deep backend platform experience with RESTful and/or gRPC APIs, distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and shared platform design.
- Experience moving from tightly coupled systems toward domain-aligned, independently deployable services.
- Ability to anticipate technical problems proactively and influence experienced engineers across teams.
- Experience working with architects and engineering managers on technically complex initiatives.
- Positive buy-in and practical familiarity with AI-assisted development workflows for implementation, debugging, and documentation.
- Preferred experience with .NET/C#, SQL Server, partner-facing APIs, Kafka, event streaming, device-oriented systems, IoT platforms, microservices, observability, incident management, production operations, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, and the Model Context Protocol (MCP).
