- Design, build, and maintain scalable, secure, highly available infrastructure across multi-account, multi-region, and multi-AZ AWS environments.
- Lead Infrastructure as Code practices with Terraform, including reusable modules, workspaces, providers, and organizational standards.
- Administer and evolve Amazon EKS clusters, including provisioning, upgrades, networking, IAM integration, node groups, and day-2 operations.
- Write and maintain complex Helm and umbrella charts and troubleshoot release, hook, and rendering failures.
- Develop custom Kubernetes controllers and operators using tools such as controller-runtime and Kubebuilder.
- Define and champion multi-cloud infrastructure architecture patterns and portability practices.
- Deploy and operate Istio, including sidecar and ambient mesh modes, traffic management, authorization, mTLS, and observability integration.
- Analyze ambiguous infrastructure and platform problems, propose solutions, and drive them through completion with minimal supervision.
- Collaborate with development, security, and architecture teams and communicate technical proposals to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to documentation, knowledge sharing, peer review, blameless post-mortems, and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Strong written and verbal communication and the ability to present technical proposals to diverse stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to independently solve ambiguous, open-ended infrastructure problems using structured debugging and root-cause analysis.
- Hands-on production experience with Terraform configurations, reusable modules, workspaces, providers, and AWS infrastructure across multi-account, multi-region, and multi-AZ environments.
- Experience provisioning and managing EKS clusters, VPC networking, EKS secondary networking, Kubernetes workloads, RBAC, storage, autoscaling, observability, and version upgrades.
- Experience writing custom Kubernetes controllers and operators using controller-runtime or Kubebuilder.
- Experience with AWS Load Balancer Controller, Kubernetes Gateway API, HTTPRoute, GatewayClass, and migration from Ingress.
- Hands-on experience authoring complex Helm charts, building umbrella charts, consuming and customizing OSS charts, and troubleshooting Helm failures.
- Production experience deploying and operating Istio in sidecar and ambient mesh modes, including traffic management and security policies.
- Deep knowledge of AWS services and networking, including EKS, VPC, EC2, S3, API Gateway, ACM, PCA, Route 53, NAT, IGW, PrivateLink, VPN, and Direct Connect.
- Strong understanding of TLS, certificate chains, mutual TLS, certificate termination strategies, and PKI fundamentals.
- Preferred experience with GitOps, CI/CD, observability stacks, and service mesh technologies such as ArgoCD, GitHub Actions, Cloudbees Jenkins, Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Jenkins, Atlantis, and Linkerd.
