Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end AWS solution architecture for the NCDS platform, including target-state architecture, reference patterns, and adoption standards.
- Set technical direction for AWS platform infrastructure across VPC, IAM, S3, Glue, Kinesis, EC2, Lambda, and RDS.
- Establish infrastructure-as-code standards using Terraform or CloudFormation at programme scale.
- Architect ingestion, processing, and integration pipelines connecting NCDS with AWS services and modern data platforms.
- Define governance, security, data protection, and architecture assurance controls.
- Chair Technical Design Authority reviews, secure stakeholder approval for complex designs, and resolve cross-team architecture risks and dependencies.
- Act as the senior technical authority for AWS architecture decisions and mentor architects and engineers.
Requirements
- At least eight years of experience in solution or technical architecture roles, including significant AWS platform architecture experience.
- Deep expertise in AWS EC2, S3, IAM, VPC, Glue, Kinesis, Lambda, and RDS.
- Experience defining infrastructure-as-code standards with Terraform or CloudFormation and strong knowledge of cloud governance, security, and data protection controls.
- Experience integrating AWS architectures with modern data platforms such as Databricks Lakehouse or Delta Lake.
- Experience presenting at or chairing a Technical Design Authority or equivalent architecture governance forum and engaging senior client stakeholders.
- Strong communication and leadership skills for guiding and mentoring architects and engineers.
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional is preferred.
- Databricks Data Engineer Professional or Architect-level certification is preferred.
- Experience in regulated or public-sector environments, particularly national data or research programmes, is preferred.
- Enterprise or reference architecture experience supported by a framework such as TOGAF is preferred.
- Active SC and NPPV3 clearance, or the willingness and ability to obtain both, is essential.
