Responsibilities
- Ensure the availability, performance, scalability, and resilience of systems and database services through monitoring, maintenance, and capacity planning.
- Analyze and resolve outages and disruptions, lead incident response, and implement measures to prevent recurring incidents.
- Develop tools and scripts to automate operational and database processes and reduce manual work.
- Monitor and optimize system performance and resource usage, including SQL query optimization and database performance tuning at scale.
- Implement and lead SRE, DevOps, and reliability practices across large organizations and complex teams.
- Design and execute enterprise-scale database migration strategies.
- Implement PostgreSQL container patterns on Kubernetes using PostgreSQL operators or Helm charts.
- Collaborate with development, executive, and cross-functional teams to embed reliability, scalability, performance, risk, and control practices.
- Serve as a PostgreSQL subject matter expert and the highest level of technical escalation for complex database issues.
- Guide technical direction, coach less experienced specialists, and advise stakeholders on strategic and cross-functional technology matters.
Requirements
- More than ten years of professional experience and expert-level knowledge of telemetry, monitoring, and platform observability tooling.
- Proven experience as a principal-level database administrator focused on PostgreSQL and similar technologies such as Oracle or MS-SQL.
- Proven experience implementing and leading SRE practices across large organizations or complex teams.
- Expertise in SQL query optimization and database performance tuning at scale.
- Experience with Git, JIRA, Ansible, containers, Kubernetes/OpenShift, and database CI/CD tools.
- Experience implementing PostgreSQL container patterns on Kubernetes with a PostgreSQL operator or Helm charts.
- Expert PostgreSQL knowledge and experience serving as a technical escalation point for complex database issues.
- Experience designing and executing enterprise-scale database migration strategies.
- Extensive experience with large, distributed, high-performance, high-availability databases operating with 24/7 uptime.
- Experience in technology, information, and security domains and preferably in a financial environment.
- Cloud experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Experience with data migration tools and software.
- Expertise with Chef or Ansible for database server configuration management.
- Expertise with PowerShell, Python, or Bash for automation and migration tasks.
- A minimum graduation degree is required; AWS Certified Database – Specialty certification is valued.
