Responsibilities
- Ensure the availability, performance, scalability, and resilience of systems and database services through monitoring, maintenance, and capacity planning.
- Respond to, analyze, and resolve outages and disruptions while implementing measures to prevent recurrence.
- Develop tools and scripts to automate operational processes and improve system resilience.
- Monitor and optimize system performance and resource usage, including SQL query and database performance tuning.
- Implement and lead SRE, DevOps, observability, and database reliability practices across complex enterprise environments.
- Design and execute enterprise-scale database migration strategies.
- Implement PostgreSQL container patterns on Kubernetes using PostgreSQL operators or Helm charts.
- Serve as the highest level of technical escalation for complex PostgreSQL and database issues.
- Advise stakeholders and senior management on technical direction, risk, controls, and strategic decisions.
- Collaborate with development and cross-functional teams to integrate reliability and scalability practices into the software development lifecycle.
Requirements
- Principal-level database administration experience focused on PostgreSQL, with experience in Oracle or MS-SQL.
- More than ten years of professional experience.
- A proven track record implementing and leading SRE practices across large organizations or complex teams.
- Expert-level knowledge of telemetry, monitoring, and platform observability tooling, including ESAAS, Grafana, and Prometheus, with experience customizing and scaling these solutions.
- Expertise in SQL query optimization and database performance tuning at scale.
- Experience with Git, JIRA, Ansible, Kubernetes, OpenShift, and database CI/CD tools.
- Experience implementing PostgreSQL container patterns on Kubernetes using a PostgreSQL operator or Helm charts.
- Recognized PostgreSQL subject-matter expertise and experience as a technical escalation point for complex database issues.
- Experience designing and executing enterprise-scale database migration strategies.
- Extensive experience with large, distributed, high-performance, high-availability databases requiring 24/7 uptime.
- Knowledge and practical experience in technology, information, and security domains, preferably in a financial environment.
- Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP and data migration tools and software.
- Experience with Chef or Ansible for database server configuration management.
- Expert scripting experience with PowerShell, Python, or Bash for automation and migration tasks.
- AWS Certified Database – Specialty certification is valued.
