Responsibilities
- Own backend solutions from partner problem discovery through production.
- Design, build, test, and operate services across distributed system boundaries.
- Make technical decisions balancing delivery speed, reliability, and maintainability.
- Improve testing and observability and diagnose production issues.
- Collaborate with product managers, partner banks, and engineers across Wise.
- Share domain knowledge and support engineer growth through reviews, pairing, and mentoring.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience building or substantially contributing to large-scale distributed systems.
- Strong backend engineering experience with relational databases, event-driven systems, and an object-oriented language.
- Ability to understand customer problems, explain solution value, and use product metrics and data to assess impact.
- Ability to work autonomously, make progress through ambiguity, and involve relevant experts.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills.
- Curiosity about banking and partner business domains.
- Experience with Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, PostgreSQL, payments, financial technology, funding, settlement, or foreign exchange is useful.
Benefits
- Starting salary of £111,000–£145,000 plus RSUs.
