Responsibilities
- Develop and test backend software solutions, frameworks, tools, and services of moderate to high complexity.
- Build high-performance, event-driven microservices for RBC’s next-generation payment engine.
- Design and implement solutions for complex technical and business requirements in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior team members.
- Lead software development tasks or projects and make recommendations affecting the team and related work areas.
- Analyze requirements, estimate work, create delivery plans, and identify risks, dependencies, assumptions, and constraints.
- Work within the DevOps pipeline to deliver services across multiple environments.
- Create and maintain technical, testing, implementation, security, and architecture documentation.
- Maintain relationships with internal teams, external contacts, IT partners, and business partners.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of backend development experience, with the posting describing a 2–5+ year range.
- Strong hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot.
- Deep understanding of microservices architecture and distributed systems.
- Practical experience with reactive and event-based programming.
- Proficiency with Git and CI/CD tools such as Jenkins.
- Strong experience with automated testing tools such as JUnit and Mockito.
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
- Preferred experience with IBM MQ or Apache Kafka, microservice resiliency patterns, Spec-Kit, Docker, Kubernetes/OpenShift, and cloud platforms including AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Preferred familiarity with monitoring and logging tools such as Splunk, Dynatrace, and the ELK stack.
- Knowledge of banking or financial services, particularly payment systems, is preferred.
