Responsibilities
- Design and implement horizontally and vertically scalable distributed-system components.
- Optimize systems for large-scale data processing, retrieval, storage, and processing.
- Implement performance, load, functional, fault-injection, and brown-out testing.
- Build fault-tolerant systems using redundancy, replication, automatic failover, retries, circuit breakers, and timeouts.
- Create alarms, dashboards, telemetry, alerting, runbooks, and operational procedures to monitor and recover systems.
- Diagnose and resolve operational issues and participate in support rotations, incident response, and root cause investigations.
- Develop automation scripts and infrastructure-as-code tooling for troubleshooting and cloud infrastructure maintenance.
- Apply encryption, access controls, security remediation, compliance, documentation, and change-management practices.
- Track timelines, prioritize work, collaborate across teams, and improve processes and workflows.
Requirements
- Experience designing, implementing, and optimizing distributed systems for scalability, resiliency, availability, and operability.
- Ability to develop large-scale data-processing solutions and implement data replication and synchronization techniques.
- Experience with performance/load testing, fault-injection testing, monitoring, telemetry, alerting, and operational troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of fault-tolerant design, recovery-oriented computing, redundancy, replication, failover, retries, circuit breakers, and timeouts.
- Ability to build automation and infrastructure-as-code tools for cloud infrastructure operations.
- Experience applying security controls such as encryption and access management and supporting compliance requirements.
- Ability to participate in incident response, write runbooks, perform root cause analysis, and work with minimal supervision on standard tasks.
