Responsibilities
- Own the APIs, schemas, and abstractions for tables, views, and materialized views used to correlate and query heterogeneous telemetry.
- Design coherent data modeling abstractions including streaming materialized views, reference tables, and log-derived metrics.
- Define freshness and staleness semantics and controls balancing query latency with compute cost.
- Design versioned, backward-compatible APIs and polymorphic data models with clear system contracts.
- Shape execution-engine requirements based on the data modeling product surface.
- Enable both simple opinionated workflows and advanced pipelines with joins, windowing, and time-based aggregations.
- Set architectural direction, write production code, and mentor engineers.
Requirements
- Have 5+ years of software engineering experience with deep expertise in databases, SQL, stream processing, or data pipeline systems.
- Have deep knowledge of data processing or streaming internals, including late-arriving data, backfills, schema-change reprocessing, and event-time versus processing-time semantics.
- Demonstrate experience designing and shipping APIs with strong database schema design, versioning, and developer ergonomics.
- Think in systems, interfaces, contracts, and long-term evolution.
- Demonstrate user empathy and product intuition for how customers define and query data.
- Be proficient in Go or another systems language and able to write production-grade distributed-systems code.
- Preferred experience includes customer-facing data modeling or pipeline-authoring products, production streaming semantics, query languages or schema DSLs, internal data platforms, Apache Iceberg, open table formats, or data lakehouse architectures.
Benefits
- The role offers ownership and shipping velocity within a focused team backed by Snowflake’s query engine, data platform, global reach, and ecosystem.
- The posting directs United States candidates to the Snowflake Careers Site for salary and benefits information.
- Snowflake employees must follow confidentiality and security standards and the company’s data security plan.
