Base Salary
$151k - $204k/yr
Responsibilities
- Advise a portfolio of early-stage founders on scalable, right-sized application and infrastructure architectures.
- Prototype, build reference patterns, and demonstrate working technical solutions alongside startup teams.
- Review and improve architectures generated by coding agents, explaining their decisions and tradeoffs.
- Guide startups in selecting foundation models and AI services and shipping production-ready GenAI applications.
- Advise on GenAI model cost, latency, accuracy, safety, and related best practices.
- Help founders make pragmatic build-versus-scale decisions while products and business direction are being validated.
- Experiment with new models, agent frameworks, and emerging tools to maintain technical credibility.
- Build relationships across the San Francisco startup ecosystem, including accelerators, incubators, and VC firms.
- Represent founder feedback to AWS product and engineering teams and identify emerging technology trends.
- Share expertise at startup events, demo days, and developer meetups.
Requirements
- At least 4 years of experience in technology domains such as software development, cloud computing, systems engineering, infrastructure, security, networking, or data and analytics.
- At least 2 years of experience designing, implementing, or consulting on applications and infrastructure.
- Experience designing and building applications using AWS services such as Lambda, AWS Elastic Beanstalk, and Kubernetes.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to technical and business audiences.
- Hands-on experience building with GenAI, including foundation models, agents, RAG, or fine-tuning, in prototype or production settings.
- Preferred: experience as a startup founder, founding engineer, or early engineer at a pre-Series A company.
- Preferred: fluency with agentic coding tools such as Claude Code and Codex.
- Preferred: experience shipping GenAI applications to production and managing model cost, latency, accuracy, and safety.
- Preferred: depth in at least one technical or industry domain with broad full-stack fluency.
- Preferred: experience building AI data foundations such as vector databases, data pipelines, or retrieval systems.
