Responsibilities
- Design and build advertising and marketing platform features that help eBay sellers and advertisers grow their businesses.
- Develop scalable, highly available applications, APIs, and services using Marko, React, Node.js, Java, and Scala.
- Own end-to-end delivery of complex features from technical design and architecture through deployment and production support.
- Drive system design, architectural decisions, technical tradeoffs, and cross-team collaboration for scalable and maintainable solutions.
- Use AI-assisted development tools for coding, debugging, testing, and code review.
- Contribute to LLM integrations, recommendation systems, intelligent campaign optimization, and other AI-powered advertising and marketing features.
- Mentor team members, participate in technical discussions, and help shape engineering best practices.
Requirements
- BS/BA in Computer Science or a related field plus eight years of work experience, or an MS plus six years of relevant experience.
- Strong experience with Java 17 or newer and Spring Boot or similar frameworks.
- Experience building scalable backend systems and RESTful APIs in distributed environments.
- Experience with event-driven architectures and message queues such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
- Experience with relational or NoSQL databases, including schema design and query optimization.
- Familiarity with Hadoop, Spark, Flink, or similar big data technologies.
- Proven ability to own end-to-end system design, lead design reviews, and make architectural decisions for multi-service features.
- Experience designing scalable distributed systems and evaluating consistency, availability, latency, and cost tradeoffs.
- Experience with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or Claude Code.
- Experience building or integrating LLM-powered features, agentic workflows, or AI-driven automation in production systems is preferred.
- Strong ownership and collaboration skills.
- Experience with Federated GraphQL APIs is highly desirable.
- Open-source contribution experience is preferred.
