Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, and operate highly available PostgreSQL topologies using CloudNativePG on Kubernetes and Patroni-style topologies on bare metal.
- Manage distributed Apache Kafka clusters on Kubernetes using Strimzi and build custom Kafka clients, connector services, and utility libraries in Go.
- Integrate PostgreSQL authorization and row-level security with Active Directory, LDAP, OIDC, JWT claims, and enterprise identity systems.
- Scale CDC pipelines using Debezium and Kafka Connect while preserving transactional integrity and avoiding dual writes.
- Design cross-region failover and disaster recovery for PostgreSQL and Kafka, including replication, quorum, split-brain prevention, and RPO/RTO targets.
- Tune PostgreSQL WAL, logical replication, connection pooling, storage, and network paths for high-throughput and zero-downtime operations.
- Maintain Terraform and ArgoCD GitOps workflows for self-service provisioning of databases, topics, schemas, and ACLs.
- Implement multi-tenant isolation using row-level security, CNI network policies, mTLS, and Kafka topic-level RBAC.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in systems, software, data, or platform engineering, including ownership of large-scale business-critical data infrastructure.
- Go or similar systems-programming experience, including concurrent code, custom client libraries, and direct database or network API work.
- 5+ years managing native PostgreSQL, with deep knowledge of WAL, logical replication, publications, subscriptions, and connection architectures.
- Production experience operating PostgreSQL on Kubernetes through a mature operator such as CloudNativePG, Zalando postgres-operator, or an equivalent.
- Strong production experience managing Apache Kafka on Kubernetes through an operator such as Strimzi, Confluent for Kubernetes, Koperator, or an equivalent.
- Experience tuning Kafka Connect and Debezium and developing or contributing to database connectors, Kafka client libraries, or integration frameworks.
- Experience integrating distributed systems with enterprise IAM or SSO providers such as Active Directory, LDAP, Okta, Azure AD, or OIDC.
- Production Kubernetes and cloud infrastructure experience, including Pod lifecycles, operators, CSI storage, CNI routing, AWS, or GCP.
- Experience with cross-region disaster recovery and failover for stateful systems, including split-brain prevention and RPO/RTO decisions, is preferred.
- Open-source contributions to Kafka connectors, PostgreSQL operators, or Go-based database libraries are preferred.
- Experience with event-stream schema governance using Karapace or Confluent Schema Registry is preferred.
- Familiarity with Apache Flink, Kafka Streams, SOC 2, ISO 27001, Redis, or MongoDB is preferred.
- A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is required, or 10+ years of equivalent related experience.
Benefits
- Professional development and training.
- Opportunities to attend conferences and working groups.
- Company outings, happy hours, hackathons, and tech talks.
- Competitive compensation package with a strong benefits plan.
- Work with colleagues and customers on open-source cloud and Kubernetes technologies.
