Responsibilities
- Design, implement, test, and maintain backend services and features for the Nexus Collection and Data Platform.
- Build scalable systems for high-volume survey distribution, response processing, and data collection.
- Develop distributed and event-driven services using Kafka-based messaging and Apache Flink stream processing.
- Develop and maintain APIs, webhooks, and integrations with internal and external systems.
- Improve throughput, latency, reliability, scalability, and resource utilization across ingestion and streaming pipelines.
- Troubleshoot production issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement preventative reliability improvements.
- Participate in on-call rotation and contribute to monitoring, observability, and operational improvements.
- Write maintainable, well-tested code and participate in code reviews and technical design discussions.
- Use AI-assisted development tools responsibly while validating generated code for correctness, security, maintainability, and performance.
- Share technical knowledge and contribute to engineering best practices.
Requirements
- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 4 years of backend software development experience, preferably using Java.
- Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, data structures, algorithms, and software engineering fundamentals.
- Experience designing, implementing, or maintaining backend services or APIs.
- Experience with relational databases and efficient database queries.
- Understanding of distributed systems, asynchronous processing, concurrency, and service-oriented architectures.
- Experience writing automated tests and debugging production software.
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude, or similar tools, with the ability to critically validate generated code.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English.
- Preferred experience includes Apache Kafka, Apache Flink, PostgreSQL, Cassandra, AWS Keyspaces, DynamoDB, REST APIs, webhooks, high-throughput distributed systems, performance tuning, caching, fault-tolerant design, OLAP engines, monitoring, observability, incident management, CI/CD workflows, and large-scale SaaS or multi-tenant enterprise systems.
