Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and operate backend services for media ingestion, processing, storage, and retrieval at scale.
  • Develop event-driven pipelines using AWS services including SQS, S3, Lambda, EKS, Redis, and CloudFront.
  • Design media platform APIs and contracts for internal and external consumers, supported by contract and end-to-end tests.
  • Implement structured logging, metrics, and distributed tracing using OpenTelemetry concepts and observability platforms.
  • Own staging and production deployments, including gradual rollouts, canary releases, and infrastructure or feature A/B tests.
  • Monitor and optimize cloud networking, storage tiering, compute, processing pipelines, cost, performance, and reliability.
  • Diagnose complex cross-service, intermittent, and load-dependent production issues.
  • Contribute to media-platform architecture, service boundaries, data models, and integration contracts.
  • Mentor engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and knowledge sharing.
  • Improve team tooling, runbooks, processes, and AI-assisted development workflows.

Requirements

  • Senior-level backend or backend-leaning full-stack engineering experience owning production services end-to-end for low-latency, high-volume data.
  • Hands-on AWS experience with SQS, EKS, Redis, CloudFront, S3, and Lambda, including understanding of their operational characteristics and limits.
  • Strong use of AI tools throughout the development lifecycle and willingness to adapt development workflows as AI capabilities evolve.
  • Experience with observability and a strong conceptual understanding of OpenTelemetry traces, metrics, and logs.
  • Practical experience managing staging and production environments, gradual or canary rollouts, and A/B tests for infrastructure or service changes.
  • Experience optimizing cloud networking, storage configuration, and processing pipelines for cost, performance, and reliability.
  • Strong distributed-systems fundamentals, including asynchronous processing, eventual consistency, idempotency, and failure handling.
  • Experience with modern backend development, API design, production reliability, and complex cross-service troubleshooting.
  • Ability to influence technical decisions, improve brownfield services, and work independently under pressure.
  • Experience with media, video, or high-throughput binary-data pipelines such as WebRTC, HLS, RTSP, or ffmpeg is preferred.
  • Kubernetes and cloud-native operations experience, including observability, metrics, tracing, incident response, and SLOs, is preferred.
  • Experience with GCP, Azure, TypeScript, Rust, or high-growth environments is preferred.
  • Candidates must be Canadian citizens or eligible to work in Canada, undergo a criminal records check, and comply with Solink security policies.
