Base Salary

$223k - $278k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end portions of the signup-to-activation experience, from data models through user interfaces.
  • Invent, prototype, and ship net-new onboarding experiences, including thoughtful applications of AI.
  • Partner with Product, Design, Data, customers, and engineering teams to frame problems, test hypotheses, and validate solutions.
  • Identify where AI can reduce customer effort and integrate those experiences appropriately into onboarding.
  • Design modular and reusable onboarding building blocks for new Gusto entry points.
  • Provide technical direction, write high-quality code, conduct strong reviews, and mentor engineers.
  • Make pragmatic scoping decisions, ship simple experiments, and iterate based on results.

Requirements

  • 10–12+ years of software engineering experience, including building and shipping customer-facing products at scale.
  • Strong full-stack fundamentals with the versatility to work across front end, back end, and data.
  • Experience applying AI/LLM capabilities to real product problems and using AI tools to work effectively.
  • Product-minded approach focused on customer problems and meaningful metrics.
  • Ability to operate independently and collaborate across Product, Design, and Data.
  • Track record of rapid, high-quality execution, technical leadership, mentorship, and setting engineering standards.
  • Comfort with ambiguity, greenfield problems, high ownership, and outcome-focused decision-making.
