Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end portions of the signup-to-activation experience, from data models through user interfaces.
- Invent, prototype, and ship net-new onboarding experiences, including thoughtful applications of AI.
- Partner with Product, Design, Data, customers, and engineering teams to frame problems, test hypotheses, and validate solutions.
- Identify where AI can reduce customer effort and integrate those experiences appropriately into onboarding.
- Design modular and reusable onboarding building blocks for new Gusto entry points.
- Provide technical direction, write high-quality code, conduct strong reviews, and mentor engineers.
- Make pragmatic scoping decisions, ship simple experiments, and iterate based on results.
Requirements
- 10–12+ years of software engineering experience, including building and shipping customer-facing products at scale.
- Strong full-stack fundamentals with the versatility to work across front end, back end, and data.
- Experience applying AI/LLM capabilities to real product problems and using AI tools to work effectively.
- Product-minded approach focused on customer problems and meaningful metrics.
- Ability to operate independently and collaborate across Product, Design, and Data.
- Track record of rapid, high-quality execution, technical leadership, mentorship, and setting engineering standards.
- Comfort with ambiguity, greenfield problems, high ownership, and outcome-focused decision-making.
