Responsibilities
- Own the operational health and reliability of a high-scale payments platform.
- Diagnose, reproduce, and permanently resolve application and production issues rather than applying temporary workarounds.
- Read and modify production code to implement fixes and add detection or prevention mechanisms.
- Troubleshoot databases, concurrency, asynchronous processing, performance bottlenecks, resource leaks, and dependency timeouts.
- Drive root-cause resolution for production incidents and identify chronic issues through observability and trend analysis.
- Build tools, frameworks, automation, engineering proposals, and support playbooks that prevent recurring problems.
- Contribute to system design and architecture discussions focused on reliability and scalability.
Requirements
- 5–7 years of experience in software engineering, application support, or SRE roles for critical, high-scale production systems.
- Strong programming skills in Java or another JVM language, plus proficiency in Python, Go, C++, or shell scripting.
- Ability to read, debug, and modify production code to implement permanent fixes.
- SQL and database troubleshooting experience with systems such as Oracle, MongoDB, or PostgreSQL.
- Understanding of concurrency, threading, asynchronous processing, and related failure modes.
- Experience with logs, metrics, traces, application-level observability, Linux/Unix fundamentals, performance profiling, and production incident resolution.
- Preferred experience with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD systems, AWS, Azure, GCP, Redis, Memcached, Kafka, SQS, RabbitMQ, S3, and GridFS.
- Working knowledge of REST/API, distributed systems, high-throughput and high-availability design, cloud migration, and reliability-focused architecture discussions.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, customer and product focus, and ability to build engineering relationships and documentation.
