Base Salary
$183k - $245k/yr
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and delivery of complex team-level projects across Metadata services while coordinating multiple engineers
- Design and develop new subsystems and own team-level subsystems end to end
- Set technical direction and drive initiatives across discovery API, catalog, lineage, and run history
- Review and approve technical designs and identify deficiencies before release
- Establish architecture, design, coding, and documentation standards
- Coach and mentor engineers and improve code quality through reviews and technical guidance
- Write technical specifications and document common components
- Optimize critical code, follow through on incidents, and improve service reliability and performance
- Use AI tooling and agents across development and SDLC artifacts
- Participate periodically in the on-call rotation
Requirements
- 8+ years of software engineering experience leading complex, team-scope technical work
- Deep expertise designing and owning subsystems in distributed, cloud-based systems
- Ability to set technical direction and drive multi-engineer initiatives
- Strong design and architecture judgment with the ability to evaluate trade-offs
- Proficiency in a modern backend or systems language such as Python, Java, C++, or C#
- Hands-on experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure; Docker and Kubernetes; and development infrastructure
- Experience partnering with QE on test strategy and owning incidents, post-mortems, reliability, and performance
- Fluent use of AI code assistants, coding agents, and conversational AI for software development and SDLC artifacts
- Preferred experience with ETL or ELT, cloud-based data platforms, metadata, catalog, lineage, discovery or search systems, GraphQL APIs, high-throughput multi-tenant data services, analytics engineering, or the dbt ecosystem
