Responsibilities

Own architecture, hands-on development, testing, deployment, documentation, and production support for PHP ecommerce web applications.
Lead JavaScript and CSS front-end direction for responsive, accessible, and high-performing customer experiences.
Develop and improve AI-assisted engineering workflows, tooling practices, patterns, and guardrails.
Design and optimize database queries and schema interactions across SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and supporting services.
Set engineering standards through code review, mentorship, testing practices, and technical documentation.
Improve reliability, observability, alerting, and incident response for customer-facing production systems.
Reduce technical debt, modernize legacy components, and deliver long-term efficiency improvements.
Break initiatives into deliverable work, communicate status and dependencies, and partner with Product, QA, and Engineering leadership.

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
5+ years of professional software development experience with strong ecommerce or high-traffic web application experience.
Deep production expertise with PHP and Symfony and/or Laravel.
Strong JavaScript and CSS skills and knowledge of HTTP, browser behavior, performance, and accessibility.
Strong relational database and SQL skills, including query optimization and schema design.
Experience designing, building, and maintaining production systems with end-to-end ownership.
Hands-on experience using AI coding tools and mentoring others in their effective use.
Experience with unit and integration testing, Git workflows, and CI/CD.
Strong communication, collaboration, mentoring, and technical-influence skills.
Preferred qualifications include experience scaling AI-assisted development workflows; Python, Flask, or data tooling; Docker, Kubernetes, GCP, or AWS; Webpack, Laravel Mix, Composer, npm, Blade, or Twig; RabbitMQ or AMQP; observability and monitoring; and legacy codebase modernization.

Primarily remote work in Costa Rica, with a mandatory in-person interview before an offer and an on-site Costa Rica office meeting during the process.
