Base Salary
$166k - $258k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design and build core AI Agentic Platform capabilities, including orchestration layers, tool-use pipelines, memory systems, and APIs.
- Own end-to-end solution design for platform components spanning multiple engineers and upstream/downstream integrations.
- Integrate LLM APIs, embedding models, vector stores, and retrieval-augmented generation patterns into platform services.
- Make and communicate technical trade-offs involving scalability, delivery timelines, infrastructure costs, and product roadmaps.
- Lead design and code reviews while maintaining standards for quality, testability, and extensibility.
- Design metrics, events, dashboards, alerting, and observability patterns for platform components.
- Partner with product, business, infrastructure, and security teams on enhancements, reliability improvements, and production fixes.
- Mentor junior engineers, participate in hiring interviews, and help maintain Nordstrom engineering and security standards.
Requirements
- 6+ years of professional software engineering experience designing and delivering complex, scalable distributed systems.
- Hands-on production experience with LLMs, foundation-model APIs, prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, and embedding-based search.
- Experience building shared AI infrastructure or developer platforms that enable other teams to deliver AI-powered features.
- Proficiency in Python and/or Java, familiarity with multiple technology stacks, and cloud-native development experience on AWS and/or GCP.
- Experience with backend services, event-driven architectures, and SQL, NoSQL, or cloud-native datastores.
- Familiarity with Kubernetes, Docker, and CI/CD tools such as GitLab.
- Ability to design multi-month systems involving a full team of engineers and balance short- and long-term trade-offs.
- Experience building observability with real-time alerting, dashboards, metrics, and performance accountability.
- Experience collaborating with product, business, infrastructure, and security stakeholders.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and experience explaining technical decisions to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience with Agile development approaches such as Scrum, Kanban, or Lean.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- Preferred experience includes building agentic systems with LangGraph, AutoGen, CrewAI, Semantic Kernel, or OpenAI Assistants API.
- Preferred qualifications include multi-agent orchestration, agent evaluation, safety guardrails, responsible AI deployment, retail or e-commerce, big data technologies, production ML integration, and open-source AI or platform contributions.
