Base Salary

$131k - $237k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop microservices forming the L-CAP automation platform.
  • Translate system designs into robust, scalable software implementations with architects.
  • Implement RESTful APIs and event-driven integrations within a hybrid cloud data mesh architecture.
  • Integrate relational and NoSQL databases while ensuring data consistency and performance.
  • Perform profiling, benchmarking, performance tuning, optimization, and latency analysis for distributed services.
  • Lead code reviews, enforce coding standards, and mentor junior developers.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues across services, APIs, and infrastructure layers.
  • Create technical documentation, including design documents, API specifications, and runbooks.
  • Participate in SAFe/Agile ceremonies, PI planning, and backlog refinement.
  • Maintain interface stability and backward compatibility while modernizing legacy ATC software into cloud-native service implementations.
  • Adopt AI-assisted development tools and modern engineering practices to improve productivity, quality, and delivery velocity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience in lieu of a degree.
  • At least 12 years of experience; a completed master’s degree may account for two additional years of experience.
  • Production software development proficiency in Java or C++.
  • Experience designing and developing microservices-based applications, RESTful APIs, distributed systems, and event-driven architectures.
  • Experience with relational databases including PostgreSQL and Oracle, and NoSQL databases including MongoDB and Cassandra.
  • Experience with Git and collaborative development workflows.
  • Proficiency with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
  • Experience with performance engineering, interface stability, API versioning, and modernization of legacy software into service-oriented or microservice implementations.
  • Familiarity with Agile/SAFe frameworks and iterative delivery.
  • Strong debugging, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust and successfully complete required government background investigations.
  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • Preferred qualifications include Python, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, Azure, Kafka, RabbitMQ, Terraform, Ansible, domain-driven design, data mesh patterns, aviation or defense experience, safety-critical or real-time distributed systems experience, and AI-assisted development tools.

  • Hybrid work requires 3 days onsite and 2 days from home for candidates within commuting distance of Gaithersburg, MD; Eagan, MN; or Egg Harbor Township, NJ.
  • Candidates outside the stated commuting areas may be considered for a 100% remote role.
  • The position supports mission-critical national air traffic infrastructure in a regulated, safety-critical environment.
