Base Salary
$161k - $262k/yr
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and architecture of scalable, cloud-native backend systems using microservices and serverless frameworks.
- Define and drive the technical roadmap in alignment with strategic business goals.
- Coordinate engineers, determine technical tasks, and provide clear technical direction as a project or system leader.
- Architect and develop large-scale Python backend systems using Django or Flask.
- Design and implement fault-tolerant, high-availability systems with disaster recovery capabilities.
- Establish engineering standards for code quality, design excellence, operational rigor, and engineering processes.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship while fostering innovation, quality, and continuous improvement.
- Apply secure coding, encryption, and access-control practices for compliance and data protection.
- Collaborate with Product, Infrastructure, and Operations teams to deliver business outcomes.
- Represent PayPal in interactions with partners, customers, and industry organizations.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of relevant experience and a bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience designing and optimizing large-scale, high-performance systems.
- Experience with Python and Django or Flask for backend development.
- Preferred experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or CDK.
- Preferred hands-on experience with Redis and event-driven messaging systems such as SQS, Kafka, RabbitMQ, or Pulsar.
- Preferred familiarity with payments, financial systems, or relevant regulatory environments.
- Preferred experience applying Agile/Scrum methodologies.
- Demonstrated contributions to open-source projects or developer communities are preferred.
