Responsibilities
- Drive architecture, design, implementation, and delivery of secure, scalable backend services deployed on Kubernetes in a multi-availability-zone cloud architecture.
- Set the technical vision for the Backend/Full-Stack pillar and evolve Java application services and companion microservices toward pooled multi-tenant architecture.
- Own Python-based data-processing services and ETL pipelines for large-scale ingestion and transformation.
- Lead public and internal API design, versioning, deprecation, and long-term contract stewardship for Process Intelligence capabilities.
- Architect PostgreSQL database consolidation and migration using Liquibase and connection-pooling strategies.
- Integrate distributed query engines and columnar storage formats for analytical workloads.
- Design authentication and authorization integrations, including session-based authentication and mutual TLS for service-to-service communication.
- Define SLIs, SLOs, telemetry, rollout strategies, service ownership practices, runbooks, and operational readiness reviews.
- Set testing strategy across unit, integration, functional, regression, and performance testing.
- Write architectural documents and test plans, lead design reviews, and provide feedback on cross-team designs.
- Coach LMTS and SMTS engineers through design and code reviews, manage technical backlogs, and establish engineering standards.
- Participate in technical interviews, calibrate engineering levels, and shape hiring criteria for senior technical roles.
- Represent the team to engineering leadership, Product, customers, integration partners, and external stakeholders.
- Lead enterprise customer integration engagements and translate customer requirements into forward-compatible API contracts.
- Facilitate Sev-1 and Sev-2 incident response, drive root-cause analysis, and implement durable corrective actions.
Requirements
- 10+ years of professional software development experience and a track record of shipping and operating enterprise SaaS at scale in a Principal-level technical leadership capacity.
- Strong production-level proficiency in Java and Python.
- Deep experience with Spring Boot, Hibernate/JPA, Tomcat, PostgreSQL, MySQL, and relational database integration.
- Expertise in relational database architecture, data modeling, schema migration tools, and query optimization.
- Experience with multi-tenant SaaS ecosystems and tenant-isolation patterns across database, cache, and storage layers.
- Experience designing and operating highly available distributed systems on AWS or comparable cloud platforms, including 99.99% or higher availability targets.
- Expertise with Kubernetes and Docker in production environments.
- Expertise in API design, service mesh architectures, mutual TLS, and zero-trust security models.
- Experience leading API strategy for headless or API-first products, including versioning, deprecation, and developer-experience stewardship.
- Experience with Apache Spark, Trino or Presto, Parquet, Iceberg, or comparable big-data technologies and columnar or lakehouse formats.
- Experience with threat modeling, AppSec, vulnerability management, security and compliance partnership, and AI safety considerations.
- Experience with automated testing and test strategy for complex systems, including JUnit, pytest, Selenium, or Playwright.
- Demonstrated ownership of enterprise-scale production incident response, root-cause analysis, observability, resilience, and rollout safety.
- Experience serving as a senior technical contact for enterprise customer integrations and shaping product direction from customer feedback.
- Ability to lead initiatives across multiple teams, mentor engineers, and drive architectural alignment across organizational boundaries.
- Exceptional communication skills for presenting technical strategy and trade-offs to executives, Product, engineering teams, and customers.
- A related technical degree is required.
- Preferred qualifications include Python backend and data-processing frameworks such as SQLAlchemy, FastAPI, Flask, PySpark, and Pandas; Redis and S3 experience; AI-assisted SDLC automation; Agile, TDD, and zero-downtime deployment experience; and familiarity with process management, process mining, or workflow automation.

- The position offers a stated base salary range of $197,300–$313,700 annually, or $237,700–$344,700 annually in select San Francisco and New York City metropolitan-area locations; bonus, equity, and benefits may be additional.
