Responsibilities
- Develop applications and tooling for safe, reliable, scalable, and fast data services.
- Own the reliability and performance of a distributed data-service platform at Apple scale.
- Build and maintain automation, backup services, monitoring and alerting tooling, dashboards, and deployment architecture.
- Address replication, consistency, capacity, cost, rollout safety, multi-datacenter failure domains, and performance challenges.
- Contribute to upstream open-source distributed-systems projects and collaborate across geographically distributed teams.
Requirements
- Demonstrated expertise in distributed systems, database systems, storage engines, streaming or messaging systems, search platforms, coordination and consensus services, or performance engineering.
- Depth in at least one data-service technology and strong distributed-systems fundamentals.
- Understanding of monitoring, alerting, incident management, consistency models, replication and consensus protocols, isolation levels, and crash and recovery semantics.
- Proficiency in one or more of modern Java, Go, or Python.
- Knowledge of operating-systems concepts including process scheduling, disk and network I/O, and performance.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work effectively with a geographically distributed team.
- Preferred experience includes critical internet services, platform infrastructure, performance engineering, Kubernetes, EC2, EBS, Terraform, datacenter architecture, hardware and networking, wide-area networking, open-source distributed systems, and distributed databases, streaming, or storage systems.
