Base Salary

$203k - $274k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Own critical banking systems across account origination, onboarding, deposits, transfers, cards, payments, and money movement.
  • Drive technical initiatives across data models, ledger design, GraphQL APIs, and member-facing experiences.
  • Design scalable, secure, highly available, low-latency financial systems and balance delivery with long-term architectural health.
  • Write production code for approximately 60–70% of the role while setting technical direction.
  • Design and evolve Kafka-based event-streaming and messaging patterns for consistent, idempotent workflows.
  • Identify, build, deploy, and evaluate AI-powered product and engineering capabilities, including agentic workflows.
  • Lead complex feature design, technical reviews, requirements gathering, sequencing, test planning, and risk management.
  • Integrate capabilities with sponsor banks, processors, and payment networks while meeting compliance and auditability obligations.
  • Set standards for automated testing, observability, performance, security, accessibility, and lifecycle quality.
  • Mentor senior engineers, lead a small group through complex problems, provide feedback, and address technical debt and tooling gaps.
  • Communicate technical decisions clearly to technical, non-technical, and executive audiences.

Requirements

  • 7+ years delivering enterprise-class applications with a strong focus on backend development, API design, and client/server contracts.
  • 5+ years designing complex distributed systems operating at scale.
  • BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong proficiency in TypeScript and/or Scala, or another functional/JVM language with the ability to ramp quickly.
  • Deep experience designing and consuming web APIs, including hands-on GraphQL schema design and federation; REST and gRPC experience is relevant.
  • Expertise with scalable microservices, messaging patterns, Kubernetes, Docker, and Terraform.
  • Production experience with Kafka or alternatives such as Pub/Sub, SQS, or RabbitMQ, including idempotent and exactly-once-effective workflows.
  • Hands-on public cloud development, with Google Cloud strongly preferred, including services such as GKE, Pub/Sub, BigQuery, Spanner, or Cloud SQL.
  • Strong relational schema design, NoSQL, and high-volume, low-latency data-pipelining experience.
  • Ability to integrate and evaluate AI in production, including LLM prompting, tool or function calling, agentic workflows, model limitations, and accuracy measurement.
  • Grounding in object-oriented and functional design, algorithms, design patterns, test automation, and software delivery practices.
  • Track record of setting technical direction, leading design reviews, mentoring engineers, and influencing cross-functionally without direct authority.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Expected base pay range is $202,500–$274,000 for New York.
