Responsibilities

  • Drive end-to-end migrations of legacy media-processing services, including data-model design, dual-write and backfill strategies, phased cutovers, rollback planning, and legacy cleanup.
  • Design Kafka- and event-schema-based consumers and producers for asynchronous media-processing workflows with state machines, checkpoints, retries, and idempotency.
  • Implement GDPR-compliant hard-deletion workflows across storage and CDN layers and integrate personal-data detection, content-integrity checks, and safe-content transformation into upload flows.
  • Build and maintain integrations with third-party transcoding and processing vendors, including webhook handling, rate limiting, and failure handling.
  • Write on-call runbooks and alerts, manage service-mesh permissions, tune throughput and consumer settings, and resolve memory, latency, backpressure, and other reliability issues.
  • Design and extend relational and NoSQL schemas and GraphQL/API layers for media entities while maintaining consistency and backward compatibility.
  • Partner with trust and safety, privacy, and platform teams to translate compliance and product requirements into pipeline changes.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of backend software engineering experience, ideally with high-scale distributed systems.
  • Strong experience with event-driven architectures such as Kafka, service meshes, and microservice-to-microservice integration.
  • Experience owning large-scale service migrations, including safe cutovers, backfills, and rollback plans.
  • Strong grounding in relational and NoSQL data modeling and schema evolution.
  • Experience with caching layers such as Redis, CDC pipelines, and cache invalidation strategies.
  • Ability to own operational responsibilities including alerts, runbooks, and production incident debugging.
  • Experience with media or video processing pipelines, third-party transcoding vendors, or content-safety systems.

Benefits

  • Fully remote work in Canada.
