Base Salary
$239k - $299k/yr
Responsibilities
- Define and build Mercury’s platform for deploying, operating, and evolving services.
- Own the strategy for service identity, authentication, discovery, and communication.
- Create a paved deployment path covering rollouts, rollbacks, configuration, secrets, and operational safety.
- Evolve the Kubernetes-based service runtime architecture while keeping existing services healthy during migration.
- Build self-service observability and operational tooling for product engineers.
- Partner with Release Engineering, Security, and product engineering teams on compliant, adoptable infrastructure.
- Identify high-leverage services ecosystem gaps and ship pragmatic improvements.
- Establish scalable infrastructure patterns that reduce operational complexity as the number of services grows.
- Mentor engineers and influence infrastructure practices across the organization.
Requirements
- Deep experience operating Kubernetes in production, including deployment architecture, failure modes, and migrations.
- Experience designing or materially owning service-to-service authentication, workload identity, service discovery, service mesh, or related distributed-systems infrastructure.
- Experience building self-service observability or operational tooling for application engineers.
- Strong platform-design judgment, including knowing when not to build something.
- Ability to treat internal platforms as products, with attention to adoption, ergonomics, defaults, documentation, and escape hatches.
- Ability to align teams with different goals and perspectives without requiring unanimity.
- Ability to communicate technical tradeoffs and reasoning clearly.
- Experience building an internal developer platform or service infrastructure at a scaled engineering organization is particularly useful.
- Demonstrated impact through systems built, decisions made, and successful adoption by other teams.

- US employees may work from any location in the United States, and Canadian employees may work from any location in Canada.
- The target base salary range is $239,000–$298,800 USD for US employees and $225,900–$282,400 USD for Canadian employees.
