Responsibilities

  • Become a subject-matter expert in production database troubleshooting, ServiceNow instance performance, and Linux performance across on-premises and hyperscaler environments.
  • Own complex incident root-cause analyses across multi-tenant PostgreSQL and MariaDB fleets at scale.
  • Develop observability and automation to prevent recurrence of critical production issues.
  • Influence infrastructure decisions shaping the multi-tenant cloud platform.
  • Support, troubleshoot, and analyze large-scale web-based distributed applications in Unix environments.
  • Use performance and stress-testing approaches to drive realistic customer simulations.
  • Develop and deploy mission-critical software.
  • Mentor and collaborate with engineers across operations, support, and development.
  • Lead individual projects, including scheduling and reporting.

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of experience with multiple relational databases, especially PostgreSQL.
  • At least 5 years of database management and performance tuning experience.
  • Database expertise including MVCC, transaction management, vacuum mechanics, database and query performance tuning, buffer management, WAL architecture, and backup/restore.
  • At least 5 years supporting or testing large-scale web-based distributed applications using containers such as Apache, Tomcat, JBoss, WebLogic, and WebSphere in a Unix environment.
  • At least 3 years developing on a SaaS, PaaS, or cloud infrastructure product or solution.
  • Experience with concurrency, multithreading, and distributed-system architectures.
  • Unix skills covering development, navigation, file manipulation, permissions, searching files and text, and administrative actions.
  • Basic shell scripting and experience with Python, JavaScript, and Ansible.
  • Desired experience on a DevOps, Kubernetes, CI/CD, performance, or support team supporting web-based applications.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, troubleshooting, and learning skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or an equivalent technical discipline, or similar work experience.
  • Experience integrating or critically evaluating AI in work processes, decision-making, or problem-solving.
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain Government of Canada Reliability Status, including five years of verifiable background history.

  • Base pay range of CAD 109,400–191,500, plus equity when applicable, variable/incentive compensation, and benefits.

  • Annual vacation of 20 days per year, accrued every pay period at 6.67 hours.
  • Flexible or remote work persona; the employee type is regular.
  • Employment is contingent on successful completion and maintenance of Government of Canada Reliability Status screening.
