Base Salary
$171k - $190k/yr
Responsibilities
- Set technical vision and architecture while influencing roadmaps across multiple teams and partner organizations.
- Design, document, and evaluate software architecture and technical trade-offs.
- Lead multi-quarter projects and drive complex initiatives to completion across team boundaries.
- Own critical platform components, including frameworks, tooling, orchestration, observability, guardrails, and scalable backend services.
- Build and operate authentication, authorization, access-management, and other foundational security services.
- Solve distributed-systems and operational challenges under heavy traffic while improving reliability, performance, and operational excellence.
- Drive cross-organizational alignment, identify gaps, define solutions, and deliver production-ready implementations at scale.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of professional experience as a software engineer.
- Significant experience designing, building, and operating large-scale, high-availability distributed systems in production.
- Ability to lead multi-quarter projects, resolve ambiguous technical problems, and drive complex initiatives across team boundaries.
- Strong backend infrastructure expertise, including microservices architecture, distributed databases, caching strategies, and asynchronous messaging systems.
- Preferred: master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Preferred: domain expertise in authentication, authorization, access management, IAM, PKI, or identity systems.
- Preferred: experience influencing backend engineering strategy and architecture across organizational boundaries.
- Preferred: experience using AI and machine learning to create efficiency through automation.
Benefits
- Base salary range for San Francisco, CA-based roles is USD $171,000-$190,000 per year.
- Eligible for Uber’s bonus program and may be offered equity and other compensation.
