Responsibilities
- Develop firmware test strategies and plans against engineering requirements and design specifications.
- Develop and execute safety, functionality, efficiency, and grid-standard testing for solar microinverter products.
- Design and implement automated test systems in Python and Ruby for embedded firmware testing and continuous integration.
- Collaborate with hardware and firmware engineers on design-for-test activities.
- Coordinate with Quality Assurance, Development, and Product Management on project planning and testing within design constraints.
- Use power meters, oscilloscopes, DC supplies, AC grid simulators, solar panel simulators, and other laboratory equipment for test coverage.
- Coach and train technical staff on test equipment, procedures, and automation software.
- Provide technical leadership and mentor junior engineers.
- Support grid-code certification testing and interactions with certification and test laboratories.
Requirements
- B.E. or B.Tech in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or Power Systems.
- 8+ years of experience in embedded firmware test, design verification test, or QA engineering.
- Strong Python programming experience for controlling test equipment and analyzing data; Ruby experience is a plus.
- Experience across embedded firmware design, implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
- In-depth knowledge of worldwide standards including IEEE 1547, IEEE 1741 SA, CA Rule 21, HECO SRD 1.1, AS/NZS 4777.2:2015, SAND2013-9875, UK G83/2, and Sandia standards.
- Knowledge of advanced grid functions and fault conditions.
- In-depth familiarity with AC grid simulators and solar panel simulators.
- Demonstrated technical leadership in test strategy, design-for-test influence, and engineering mentorship.
- Experience establishing continuous-integration pipelines for embedded firmware testing.
- Experience with grid-code certification testing and certification or test laboratories.
- Hands-on experience testing advanced grid-support functions including volt/VAR, frequency-watt, and ride-through across multiple regional grid codes.
