Responsibilities
- Develop reusable, testable, optimized, and efficient software for Avalara1099 and its expanding APIs and UI.
- Design and support scalable, secure, low-latency, available, and fault-tolerant systems.
- Collaborate with engineering, product, business teams, customers, and partners to ship features and resolve issues.
- Perform technical troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and resolution-quality improvements.
- Mentor teammates, share knowledge, improve documentation, and raise engineering standards.
- Improve processes, tools, workflows, diagnostics, and automation to increase scalability and efficiency.
- Use AI tools for development, troubleshooting, case-history summarization, knowledge-base content, and measurable productivity improvements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science or engineering is required.
- 8+ years of experience in Ruby on Rails or C#.
- Experience publishing and consuming REST APIs.
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines using GitLab and Terraform.
- Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, ECS, and Docker Swarm.
- Experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Understanding of relational databases, especially PostgreSQL.
- Strong object-oriented programming, debugging, data structures, and algorithm skills.
- Experience securing web applications and building scalable, low-latency systems.
- Experience working in Agile teams and communicating updates and resolutions to customers and partners.
- Ability to analyze alternative solutions, mentor others, adapt to innovation, and work effectively in a lean startup environment.
- Experience using AI and AI-related technologies and willingness to apply AI to business and engineering challenges.
