Base Salary
$118k - $212k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design, build, operate, and maintain scalable backend systems, services, and APIs.
- Translate complex business requirements into practical, performant, and maintainable system designs.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to introduce and enhance product capabilities for customers.
- Provide technical leadership and direction to engineers through direct contribution and architectural guidance.
- Develop software for large-scale cloud services with a focus on simplicity, reliability, maintainability, and operational excellence.
- Establish development and operational standards and improve software development lifecycle processes and systems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex distributed-system issues with minimal oversight.
- Champion secure, uniform, well-documented REST and gRPC API designs and governance standards.
- Participate in on-call rotation and own incident response, including triage, mitigation, and root cause analysis.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, with 5+ years of experience.
- Experience with distributed systems at scale and with developing distributed, scalable, highly available services.
- Experience creating clean APIs using gRPC or HTTP.
- Understanding of networking and software-defined networking.
- Experience with Go or Ruby/Ruby on Rails and willingness to learn additional languages as needed.
- Experience with CI/CD, testing automation, Kubernetes, Docker, and container services.
- Experience with Scrum, JIRA, peer review, Git, and software development practices.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, documentation, and architectural-diagramming skills.
- Familiarity with at least one traditional SQL database; PostgreSQL is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of hardware management or automated server bootstrapping in a data center.
- Experience contributing to and interacting with open-source communities is a plus.
- Familiarity with AI-powered developer tools is a plus.
