Responsibilities
- Partner with senior technical and business stakeholders to identify opportunities for evolving the Uber One program across UberEats and UberX.
- Design and architect robust, highly available, and scalable systems serving millions of users.
- Drive technical strategy for platform evolution, microservices architecture, and API design.
- Lead architecture reviews, reduce systemic technical debt, and improve observability and incident response.
- Define engineering standards and strengthen engineering velocity, quality, and technical culture across the organization.
- Lead technical projects end-to-end from inception and design through global deployment and productionization.
- Mentor and coach staff and senior engineers through technical guidance and thought leadership.
- Collaborate across engineering, product management, data science, design, and other organizations to deliver membership products.
Requirements
- 10+ years of software engineering experience building large-scale systems.
- Bachelor’s or higher degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Expertise in one or more programming languages, including Go, Java, Python, Kotlin, Swift, or C++.
- Deep understanding of algorithms, data structures, distributed systems, system design, and software architecture.
- Experience owning critical large-scale platforms or infrastructure services.
- Experience identifying architectural gaps and creating organization-wide frameworks that improve developer velocity and reduce systemic technical debt.
- Ability to lead technical projects through the full lifecycle, from inception through productionization.
- Expertise defining standards for testing, monitoring, and alerting and overseeing complex incident management.
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners around a technical vision.
- Preferred experience with marketplaces, real-time platforms requiring high consistency and global reliability, user research and data-informed product development, cross-company technical collaboration, and full-stack applications spanning backend servers and Android and iOS apps.
Benefits
- Base salary is USD $267,000-$297,000 per year for roles based in New York City, San Francisco, or Sunnyvale.
- Eligible for Uber’s bonus program and may be offered equity and other compensation.
