Base Salary
$201k - $352k/yr
Responsibilities
- Set technical direction and architecture strategy for the data access layer.
- Build and improve core data architecture supporting scalability, reliability, security, performance, and multiple database engines.
- Own features from design through production delivery and develop cross-team solutions.
- Lead design and code reviews while championing performance, maintainability, and testability.
- Define functional, regression, integration, and performance testing strategies.
- Diagnose and resolve complex production issues involving memory leaks, concurrency, locking, networking, and intermittent failures.
- Mentor engineers and raise engineering standards across the organization.
Requirements
- 5+ years of software development experience with a PhD, 8+ years with a Master’s degree, 12+ years with a Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience.
- Demonstrated technical leadership at Staff or Senior Staff level or equivalent.
- Expert-level Java development and object-oriented, modularized software design.
- Advanced-to-expert backend platform development experience.
- Experience with relational databases and strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, design patterns, and performance optimization at scale.
- Experience with automated testing frameworks and integrating tests into CI/CD pipelines.
- Deep understanding of software quality, reliability, observability, production readiness, cloud-based systems, and distributed systems.
- Experience troubleshooting complex production issues across the stack.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including authoring design documents or RFCs and presenting technical strategy.
- Preferred qualifications include ServiceNow platform familiarity, RDBMS internals knowledge, Neo4J and graph database experience, Unix shell experience, DevOps experience, customer-focused experience, and the ability to integrate AI into engineering workflows.
