Responsibilities
- Own the enterprise-wide current-state, capability-to-system, and multi-year target-state architecture.
- Define and maintain the technical roadmap with domain and platform leaders.
- Lead multi-brand platform harmonization, simplification, technical-debt reduction, and Blue Nile or acquisition integration.
- Establish enterprise architecture standards, reference patterns, ADRs, decision gates, and initiative assurance reviews.
- Provide hands-on architecture leadership for selected cross-domain initiatives such as commerce modernization, CMS, order management, and customer data.
- Drive AI-assisted and agentic development practices, including safe and scalable orchestration, MCP-based integration, and guardrails.
- Build a small internal architecture team and reduce reliance on external contractors.
- Lead the architecture community of practice, mentor architects, and advise executives on technical decisions and economics.
Requirements
- 15+ years of progressive technology experience, including experience as a Chief or Principal Architect, VP of Engineering, or CTO in a large-scale multi-brand retail or e-commerce enterprise with $2B+ revenue.
- Most of the career spent designing and shipping production systems alongside engineering teams rather than working in strategy-only roles.
- Demonstrated cross-portfolio architecture ownership and experience with platform consolidation, brand harmonization, and simplification at scale.
- Deep knowledge of cloud, integration, event-driven, headless, composable, and MACH architecture, including hands-on fluency with a major cloud provider’s serverless ecosystem such as AWS.
- Experience creating durable architecture artifacts such as capability maps, C4 diagrams, and ADRs.
- Strong financial fluency and ability to influence in a matrixed environment without reporting authority.
- Experience with AI-assisted SDLC practices and agentic AI architecture patterns.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Preferred: technical master’s degree, specialty retail or jewelry experience, SAP Commerce Cloud, IBM Sterling, Fluent, Manhattan OMS, AEM, Contentful, Contentstack, Oracle Xstore, Adobe, Amperity, Salesforce, permissioned distributed ledgers, heavy external APIs, multinational e-commerce or omnichannel operations, TOGAF, C4, or ArchiMate.
