Base Salary
$168k - $178k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate AI-powered services and internal applications such as code assistants, test assistants, knowledge search, and intelligent chat workflows.
- Implement backend services and integrate foundation models through APIs and open-source frameworks, using retrieval-augmented generation and vector search where appropriate.
- Own projects end-to-end from requirements and technical design through implementation, testing, deployment, observability, on-call support, and reliability, latency, and cost improvements.
- Partner with Developer Platform, ML Platform, Security, Legal, and Data teams on safe, compliant, governed, and privacy-conscious AI usage.
- Define and track adoption, task completion, DORA/SPACE, satisfaction, and other success metrics, and run A/B tests to guide iteration.
- Create shared tooling, libraries, and documentation for applied AI development, and mentor teammates on engineering best practices.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience building and operating production services.
- At least 3 years of hands-on experience with Python, Go, or Java.
- At least 2 years of experience integrating ML or LLM capabilities into applications and shipping them to production.
- Practical experience with AWS or GCP, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Proficiency with SQL and data modeling, plus experience building or maintaining data pipelines using tools such as Airflow or Dagster.
- Experience owning services end-to-end, including automated testing, observability, deployment, and on-call participation.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Preferred experience adapting or fine-tuning foundation models, implementing retrieval-augmented generation with vector databases, and building resilient distributed or event-driven systems.
- Preferred experience building internal developer tools adopted by 100 or more engineers, measuring developer productivity, running experiments, and applying AI safety, privacy, and compliance practices.
- Preferred ability to build lightweight internal-tool front ends with React and TypeScript, along with demonstrated mentorship and technical leadership.
