Responsibilities
- Define and lead architectures for RTOS-based embedded devices and systems, including multi-core processors, distributed nodes, and safety-critical components.
- Design, develop, code, test, and debug system software, including low-level drivers and board bring-up.
- Create and maintain hardware-abstraction layers and operating-system abstraction layers for embedded systems.
- Define and enforce architectural guidelines, coding standards, and design patterns across cross-functional RTOS software teams.
- Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including requirements verification and validation, in an Agile environment.
- Lead VxWorks integration, deterministic scheduling, priority management, and inter-process communication.
- Mentor embedded software engineers, conduct code reviews, and provide technical guidance across hardware, software, and systems engineering disciplines.
Requirements
- BS in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field plus 12+ years of embedded software experience; or an MS plus 10+ years of experience, with an additional four years potentially substituting for a degree.
- Proven software architect or technical lead experience for embedded systems.
- Expertise with at least one major RTOS, such as VxWorks, ThreadX, FreeRTOS, or Green Hills INTEGRITY.
- Experience developing and troubleshooting low-level embedded software and designing multithreaded, multiprocess systems with strict real-time constraints.
- Strong proficiency in C or C++ and familiarity with Java, Python, or C#.
- Current U.S. Government DoW Secret security clearance and ability to obtain Special Access Program clearance.
- Preferred experience includes weapons systems, real-time embedded constraints, safety-critical standards, secure communications, Git, Jenkins, CMake, Make, Yocto, hardware/peripheral/OS abstraction, preemptive multitasking RTOS environments, embedded C++ optimization, VxWorks integration, Atlassian Suite tools, SonarQube, and product-owner work.
