$202k - $224k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design and build long-lasting engineering artifacts that reduce complexity and increase developer velocity.
- Solve high-impact problems involving low latency, high correctness, performance, reliability, and scale.
- Identify architectural opportunities and work with leadership to address risks before they affect the global marketplace.
- Lead organization-wide development and adoption of key frameworks and promote high-quality coding and design practices.
- Translate ambiguous business requirements into production-ready technical roadmaps with Product, Science, and Operations.
- Lead engineering projects through inception, stakeholder engagement, implementation, and operations.
- Oversee incident management processes and direct on-call rotations.
- Mentor and guide engineers while representing engineering excellence internally and externally.
Requirements
- At least 6 years of professional experience in backend software engineering, data engineering, or a related technical role.
- Expertise writing high-quality code for strategically important, cross-organizational problems.
- Advanced proficiency in SQL and data warehousing, including identifying and reconciling architectural gaps.
- Experience leading organization-wide engineering projects through their full lifecycle.
- Proven ability to make sound engineering and business tradeoffs with long-term implications.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- Preferred: experience building high-performance distributed systems at a 100M+ user scale.
- Preferred: expertise with real-time streaming frameworks such as Flink and Spark and OLAP systems such as Apache Pinot and Druid.
- Preferred: experience with Big Data/Hadoop ecosystem tools for complex data orchestration.
- Preferred: strong leadership, technical community representation, and ability to build alignment for large-scale technology transformations.
Benefits
- Base salary range of USD $202,000-$224,000 per year for San Francisco, CA-based roles, plus eligibility for Uber’s bonus program and potential equity awards and other compensation.
