Responsibilities
- Own architecture and solution-level design decisions, including trade-offs, technical risks, feasibility, and documentation.
- Modernize legacy systems into maintainable, cloud-capable architectures without disrupting business operations.
- Design and implement significant portions of the system and own production health through release and operations.
- Use AI-assisted development tools such as Claude and Cursor where they improve design, implementation, and documentation.
- Mentor engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and day-to-day guidance while delegating work effectively.
- Act as a technical backup to the Head of R&D and assume broader technical responsibility across projects over time.
- Translate ambiguous customer, regulated-industry, and enterprise requirements into technical designs.
- Collaborate with product owners, QA, and subject-matter experts and communicate risks, trade-offs, and plans to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Operate independently in ambiguous, shifting-priority conditions and participate in Agile ceremonies.
Requirements
- At least 8 years of professional software engineering experience with ownership of architecture and design decisions.
- A proven record of modernizing legacy systems into maintainable, cloud-capable architectures.
- Full software development lifecycle experience from requirements and design through implementation, testing, release, and operations.
- Strong relational database fundamentals, including experience with PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or Oracle.
- Experience in regulated-industry and/or enterprise software environments with attention to compliance, data integrity, and audit requirements.
- Strong secure-coding practices and software design principles.
- Experience mentoring or informally leading other engineers.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Preferred experience owning CI/CD pipelines, supporting hybrid cloud and on-premises deployments, and working with more than one listed relational database.
- Preferred regular use of Claude, Cursor, or similar AI-assisted development tools and experience adopting new technologies early.
- Experience designing or shipping AI/ML-powered production features using LLMs, cloud AI/ML services, or applied ML is preferred.
